10 Tips

Everyone wants to make their new place feel like home, whether you own your apartment or simply rent your new space. Maximising what your have is key by following a few helpful tips:

  1. Plan your budget wisely and purchase what know you’ll still get value out of in 5-10 years time.
  2. Try and choose a light wood floor such as OAK or a neutral coloured carpet to stretch open a room and create a feeling of space.
  3. Painting walls in light warm neutral tones helps to push back walls also. If you’d like to make a statement try painting or wallpapering one feature wall to add some character in a complementing colour.
  4. Invest as much as you can in your furniture. It’s much easier on your pocket to re-transform your room down the road by changing your room accessories than buying new pieces of furniture.
  5. Introduce splashes of colour into the room in your scattered cushions, lamp shades, rugs, throws, objects and artwork. If you keep the backdrop neutral you can really experiment on changing colours and won’t run the risk of getting bored with your room in years to come.
  6. Make your mirrors work for you. Bring extra needed light into dark corners or open up a small space by using large mirrors positioned cleverly to double the size of your room.
  7. Buy multi-functional furniture. Try sourcing a TV storage bookcase combination that holds your books, CDs and all audio equipment neatly to one side of the room. Also try using extendable dining tables and coffee tables or lamp tables that double up as extra storage spaces. This will keep you organized and make the room feel less cluttered.
  8. If bedrooms are tight try using divan beds with drawer storage underneath. Look out for upholstered headboards for extra height, texture and luxury in your room instead to save space.
  9. Double up your space room as a home office. Consider buying a day-bed that works as a sofa bed for when friends or family pop around.
  10. Good lighting is always important. Lamp bases come in all sizes and finishes but reflective bases such as glass or silver help reflect light and sparkle into your room. Floor lamps help dark corners and consider a one-off special feature light over your dining table.

It’s much easier to change your wall paint than re-floor your apartment. Lighter wood flooring helps to stretch a small room open. If floors are already down try enhancing areas using lighter tone rugs.
